Excerpt from Practical Error, and the Test of True Holiness: A Sermon, Delivered at the Ordination of Rev. Josiah Moore, as Pastor of the First Church and Society in Athol, December 8, 1830
I. In presenting to your consideration the rac tical error of men on the subject of holiness, am not to speak of any thing new. It is an old error, and will account for much of the corruption that has crept in and marred the beauty of the Chris tian faith. Christianity was hardly embraced be fore men sought to evade its requisitions, as now at the end of centuries they seek it still. And if we would learn how this is, let us take into view the practices of the ancient church - we see things with less prejudice at a distance, and by bringing into view the practical errors of ancient Christians we may see as in a glass our own reflected.
