Excerpt from The Relation of Intellectual Power to Man's True Perfection, Further Considered: With Reference to a Criticism in the Rambler for May 1862
I take for granted, that no one will take the trouble to read this pamphlet, unless he is desirous of thoroughly examining the controversy to which it refers. I will therefore here reiterate a request which I make in p. 3; I will entreat the reader to have my original pamphlet at hand, and refer to it at once whenever it is cited. I believe, of course, that the original work contained a statement of reasons, amply sufficient for its various conclusions; my chief business, therefore, in this, will be the drawing attention to those reasons. It would be simple waste of time and room, to put down again here, what has been fully stated there.
It is but reasonable, that the reader should also refer to my opponent's article whenever I quote it. And I should be extremely glad if, as soon as he has completed this pamphlet, he would again read through the adverse criticism as carefully as possible; to see if there be any argument of the least force, which I have omitted to consider. Indeed, I am very confident that the more carefully that article is read, in so much the lower estimation will its reasoning and conclusions be held.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is a theological exploration of the relationship between human intellectual ability and spiritual perfection. The author argues that those who make the development of their spiritual qualities a priority will ultimately attain a more fulfilling existence than those whose lives are spiritually empty. Indeed, the more one focuses on developing one's spiritual qualities, the closer they come to fulfilling their purpose in life. While intellect is important, the author maintains that charity is more important in leading one to a relationship with God. Exploring the concept of merit and other theological matters, this book argues that the perfection of one's intellect is only part of the equation in a fulfilling life and that the perfection of the will is an essential component of spiritual perfection.
