Excerpt from An Answer to Three Scurrilous Pamphlets, Entitled the Jockey Club
There can be no doubt that the Reader will readily and candidly admit, the Author of the Jockey Club is intitled to preeminence of situation in this Answer to his books. He has a claim, by the provocation he has given, to stand at the head of the lilt. He who has so largely libelled others, by the most unpardonable falsehoods, must expect a display of his own character.
