There can be no question that v. Hasselt's group Geotrochus was founded on species of Trochomorpha or Trochonanina. "Under the generic name Geotrochus, I group three little shells, agreeing with Trochus in form of the shell, but with Helix in the animal." The species obtusus, turriculatus and zonatus are enumerated by v. Hasselt. The absence of true Papuina in Java, and the abundance of Trochonanina at the localities visited by Hasselt, cause Dr. v. Martens to surmise that he had before him Helix winteriana and conus or allied species. Swainson and many others have used the name Geotrochus for H. pileus and allies, and it is an unfortunate circumstance that the change is necessary.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the diversity and distribution of Papaina group species of the largely Southeast Asian and Australasian snail genus Helix, a group of colorful, relatively small land snails that are notable for their distinctive coloration and shell shape. The taxonomy, distribution, and affinities of the various species and groups within Papaina are discussed, including their comparative morphology, anatomy, and ecology. The author describes the species, using shell characteristics, measurements, and distribution information, as well as presenting new illustrations showing the shells of many of the species. This book is important for malacologists and zoologists, and will also be of value to anyone interested in the diversity of the molluscan fauna of Southeast Asia and the Australasian region.
