The Trojan Dames is in many respects the best of the plays of Euripides for school reading. The four plays edited by Porson are in the hands of every schoolboy, yet they were chosen for annotation by that great scholar, not because they were the best instruments to the hand of the teacher, but because they are pre served in a great number of codices, and came first in those which he chiefly used. At least three of these four plays are' less fitted than most of the works of Euripides. To be put into the hands of schoolboys, and none of them, I think, are so suitable for this purpose as the Troades.
