Liquid in which the normal oxygen content was more or less increased, in mixture with carbonaceous material was first tried as an explosive in Germany, in 1897, following the invention by Linde of his liquefying apparatus in 1895, blasting tests being conducted with favorable results in a crosscut of the Penzberg coal mine in upper Bavaria.
