Excerpt from The Influence of Inert Gases on Inflammable Gaseous Mixtures
The results are given in the form of tables and curves, by means of which one may readily determine whether any mixture of these gases, provided it contains not over 19 per cent oxygen and its composition is known, is explosive.
In future experiments it is planned to extend the investigation to mixtures containing carbon monoxide.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book investigates the incendiary limits of methane and natural gas in combination with different ratios of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen. Gaseous mixtures containing varying proportions of oxygen, methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen often occur in mines and sealed or naturally occurring fires. The author explores the conditions and ratios under which these mixtures may explode when ignited by an electric arc or spark. The research in this book was foundational for developing methods to reduce the risk of secondary explosions and assess whether atmospheres are safe to enter with breathing apparatus and electric safety lamps.
