Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This publication presents the results of the fourth general adjustment of precise leveling done in the United States. Precise leveling is the process of measuring elevations of various locations using an extremely sensitive and accurate level. The adjustment in this book includes all precise leveling done before 1912, except for lines that do not form part of closed circuits. It presents the most precise leveling information available before the 20th century. This information was gathered using a new type of precise level designed in the office of the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey. The new instrument was described in detail in Appendix 3, Report for 1903, and it was used with an extremely simple program of observation. Engineers and surveyors will find in this book standard elevations of bench marks which will assist them in extending their work and using elevations contained in this volume as data.
