The numerous attempts that have been made to overcome the difficulties which oppose them selves to the employment of steam 'as a pro pelling power, in canal navigation, have hitherto proved so unavailing, that I should scarcely have ventured to express the conviction which I entertain, that this most desirable object has been at length accomplished, had I not found myself supported in that opinion by two pro fessional gentlemen, 'of acknowledged talent and experience, whose report on the subject I have subjoined.
