Excerpt from A Guide to the Redemption of the Land Tax: Containing an Analysis of the Several Acts Now in Force for the Redemption of the Land Tax, With Tables for Calculating the Terms of Redemption in Money and Stock
Tm: acts which now regulate the redemption of the Land Tax are the 42 Geo. 8, c. 116; the 53 Geo. 3, c. 123; the 54 Geo. 3, c. 173; the 16 17 Vic, c. 74; and the 16 17 Vic, c. 117. As /9 oz 20 75. C fl.
Many of the provisions of the first three of these acts have expired, and others have been repealed; and, as those that remain in force are so scattered over the several acts that the consideration of each act separately would only confuse the general reader, it will be more advisable to follow the process of redemption step by step, noting at the same time the several sections by which it is governed.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the importance of the 1798 Land Tax and the many statutes that followed, for alterations and facilitation of the tax's operation, and for amending the mode of levying the tax. The author writes in accessible yet detailed terms suited to both local commissioners and the general public. The text not only analyzes the statutes but also offers commentary on the inequity of distributing quotas for land tax payments and suggestions for modernizing the system. The 1798 Land Tax and the statutes that followed transformed the land tax from a voted annual levy into a perpetual, fixed charge on various districts that continues to impact the way the UK assesses and raises funds today.
