Excerpt from Lectures on Auto-Intoxication in Disease: Or Self-Poisoning of the Individual
Bouchard, in his auto-intoxication, clearly indicates to us that man is constantly standing, as it were, on the brink of a precipice; he is continually on the threshold of disease. Every moment of his life he runs the risk of being overpowered by poisons generated within his system. Self-poisoning is only prevented by the activity Of his excretory organs, chiefly the kidney, and by the watchfulness Of the liver, which acts the part of a sentinel to the materials brought to it by the portal vein from the alimentary canal. Disease is not something altogether apart from the individual. The patient and his disease are too Often found living under identical conditions.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book examines auto-intoxication (self-poisoning) as a significant aspect of disease, particularly in its chronic or acute forms. The author asserts that many diseases previously believed to be caused by microbes are largely the result of the body's struggle to neutralize its own toxic byproducts. The author provides a comprehensive overview of the various toxic substances produced by the human body, exploring their origins and how the body attempts to eliminate them. Particular focus is given to the role of the liver, kidneys, and intestines in preventing the accumulation of toxic substances. This book also explores the concept of diathesis, or a predisposition to certain diseases due to chronic nutritional disorders. The author argues that diathesis, often caused by nerve reactions, can set the stage for infection and disease to take hold. The book provides a fresh perspective on the causes of disease and offers insights into the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to prevent the development of chronic conditions.
