Excerpt from Manual of Advanced Optics
This small manual is an attempt to meet the needs of the more advanced students of Optics. It has been written primarily for the use of the author's classes in the University of Chicago, and it covers the work done by them during three months of their senior year. It is hoped, however, that it will be found useful at other universities and will serve as a stimulus to a more extensive study of this most fascinating branch of science.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is a guide to advanced optics that teaches methods of measuring light waves based on the phenomena of interference. With roots in the work of physicists such as Albert Michelson, this book imparts the experience of the author in presenting optical theory to students at the University of Chicago. Aimed at advanced students of physics, this book begins with a discussion of interference and diffraction, then explains how to determine the resolving power of a spectrometer. The book also covers total reflection, the diffraction grating, and the spectroscopy of light. Understand the development of optical theory, from the work of early greats like Huygens to the ideas of Einstein. By presenting both the theoretical ideas and the practical methods used to explore them, this book provides a unique grounding for the understanding of the nature of light.
