Excerpt from Word Finder
IN putting together this little book the authors have tried to meet a long-felt, specific need of the elementary school child. The Word Finder aims to accomplish just one thing to enable the pupil to look up quickly the spelling of words to be used in written work. It has no other function. But it tries to do that one thing well by omitting all material not pertinent to that special use. The authors hope that the book will make easier the development of a spelling conscience and the dictionary habit. It is not intended to supplant the dictionary or to take the place of the Spelling lesson, but rather to be one among many means whereby spelling may be taught and the written vocabulary enlarged.
