Of the undoubted, original authorities relating to the war that destroyed the French power in North America, was captured by a force of French soldiers and Indians on a wagon road that crossed the divide between the MO hawk River and Wood Creek, just north of the modern city of Rome, New York. He was carried thence to Canada, where he was adopted into an Indian family, and where he remained, part of the time with the Indians, and a part with the French, for something less than two years.

Robert Eastburn, whose Faithful Narrative is one of the valuable, because one of the undoubted, original authorities relating to the war that destroyed the French power in North America, was captured by a force of French soldiers and Indians on a wagon road that crossed the divide between the Mohawk River and Wood Creek, just north of the modern city of Rome, New York. He was carried thence to Canada, where he was adopted into an Indian family, and where he remained, part of the time with the Indians, and a part with the French, for something less than two years.

It will add to the interest of the narration of his experiences to know that Eastburn was born in England in 1710 (see Memoirs of the Rev. Joseph Eastburn), but was brought to America by his parents when he was four years old. There after his home was in Philadelphia.
