Our last legis'ature passed an act do ing partial justice to the more needy sufferers by the Quantrell Raid at Lawrence by making provision for the payment to them by installments of ten per cent annually, commencing January 1890. Of some paying the smaller losses in full some time during the century, but paying to those who lost most largely only This tardy act of liberality and justice induces me to relate somewhat at length what I know of that most atro cions and bloody tragedy andtof which I was an eye witness.
