Excerpt from The Divining Rod: Virgula Divina-Baculus Divinatorius (Water-Witching)
MY Essay on the Divining Rod, (vulgus, water-witching, having proved interesting to a number of my friends, I have concluded to give it to the public, with the hope that some useful practical results may be derived from it. I have no apology to make for presenting this subject in a serious light. I regard it as one strictly in the domain of science, and, there fore, worthy of the consideration of scientific men. I have no fear of ridicule, knowing for myself and not for another, that what is here presented is the truth.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the intriguing world of the divining rod, an ancient practice used to locate underground water sources. The author presents a detailed argument, bolstered by personal anecdotes and historical accounts, that the divining rod's effectiveness is rooted in the power of electricity and not, as many have believed, superstition. Exploring the subject through a scientific lens, the author challenges the prevailing skepticism surrounding this practice, drawing parallels with the scientific advancements of the time, such as the telegraph, and the ongoing exploration of electricity. Through a series of experiments and observations, the author demonstrates his theory and offers a practical approach to using the divining rod, even suggesting a potential method for determining the depth of the water source. The book dives into the historical context of the divining rod, citing its use as far back as the time of Moses and highlighting its enduring presence in cultures across Europe, particularly in England, France, and Germany. The author draws on historical accounts from renowned thinkers, including Sir David Brewster, and provides anecdotal evidence from diverse individuals who have experienced the divining rod's efficacy, including a nobleman's wife and a Swiss gentleman. This fascinating exploration into the scientific underpinnings of the divining rod challenges conventional thinking and opens the door to a deeper understanding of the complex and often overlooked power of electricity.
