Excerpt from The Interaction of Uncertainty and Asset Specificity in Component Make-or-Buy Decisions
Stage assembly components in a division of a major US automobile manufacturer. By specifying two types of uncertainty - volume and technological, and controlling for production costs, we find evidence to support his hypothesis. However, the results show that volume and technological uncertainty are managed differently by the division; the implications of this finding for Williamson's theory is discussed.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the ways in which uncertainty and the uniqueness of an asset combine to influence the decision to make or buy a certain component. The study is based on the transaction cost framework, a model that emphasizes how the efficiency of transactions can be affected by factors such as opportunism and information processing capacity. The author argues that high levels of uncertainty and asset specificity can lead to higher transaction costs, and that this can influence the decision to make or buy a component. The book provides evidence to support this hypothesis, showing that the interaction of uncertainty and asset specificity is a significant determinant of make-or-buy decisions. The book's findings have implications for understanding the economics of organization, and for making more efficient decisions about the allocation of resources.
