Excerpt from Semilinear (Topological) Spaces and Applications: June, 1971
In this paper we define semivector spaces and develop some of their algebraic aspects including some structure theory; then top 0pogize these spaces to obtain semilinear topological spaces for which we identify a hierarchy of local convexity axioms; establish a number of fixed point and minmax theorems for spaces with various local convexity properties; illustrate how the spaces of concern arise naturally as various hyperspaces of linear and semilinear (topological) spaces; and, finally, indicate briefly how all the above are applied in socio-economic analysis and optimization.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book defines and explores semivector spaces, elaborating on their algebraic aspects and some structure theory. It goes on to topologize these spaces, and identify a hierarchy of local convexity axioms for real semilinear topological spaces. The author establishes a number of fixed point and minmax theorems for spaces with various local convexity properties. They illustrate how the spaces of concern arise naturally as various hyperspaces of linear and semilinear spaces and indicate briefly how the material of the earlier sections is applied in socio-economic analysis and optimization. In contrast to vector spaces, semivector spaces are built upon underlying commutative semigroups, so that the space need not have an origin (identity element) and its elements need not possess inverses. The author uses this foundation to generalize well-known fixed point theorems due to S. Kakutani H. F. Bohnenblust, S. Karlin and K. Fan. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
