Excerpt from Transferring Technology to the Small Manufacturing Firm: A Study of Technology Transfer in Three Countries
The method used to determine the sources of new technology was very simple and straightforward. The general manager (or his designate), in each firm, was asked to think back over the last several years and then tell us what he thought was the most significant change, in either product or process, that hao occurred within the firm. The principals who were involved in introducing the change were then interviewed at length to learn as much as possible about the circumstances surrounding the introduction of the new technology.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book studies the transfer of technology to small-scale manufacturing firms in Ireland, Spain, and Mexico during the early 1980s. The author presents 100 case histories of technological changes implemented by these companies to better understand the sources of industrial innovation and the support systems for technological problem-solving required for successful implementation. It examines cases from industries such as food processing, electronics, chemicals, and textiles to demonstrate how small firms acquire technology, whether from domestic sources, foreign firms, or government-sponsored research institutes. The book argues that personal contact and international connections, rather than documentation systems or research institutes, were most critical in facilitating effective technology transfer. This study contributes to our understanding of how technology is diffused and adopted in developing countries and the challenges faced by small firms in accessing and implementing new technologies.
