Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the 1993 U.S. House of Representatives Agriculture Committee hearing on meat and poultry inspection in America. The text presents opening statements by committee members before hearing expert testimony from the Administrator of the Food Safety and Inspection Service, the Director of the National Center for Infectious Diseases, and the Director of the Food and Agriculture Issues division of the U.S. General Accounting Office. Each expert provides insights into the current state of meat and poultry inspection systems, identifies key limitations, and proposes recommendations for improvement. The book positions these insights within a context of ongoing need to modernize meat inspection, propelled by the identification of new pathogens and the 1993 E. coli outbreak in the Pacific Northwest. It examines the challenges of creating a science-based risk-assessment driven inspection system, highlights the importance of collaboration among relevant agencies, and emphasizes the book's significance in shaping contemporary food safety policy.
