Excerpt from Researches Into Induced Cell-Repro-Duction in Amœbæ, Vol. 4
The experiments described in the following papers were begun in January 1913, and they form part of the general researches of the J ohn Howard mcfadden Research Fund into the causation of cancer and other forms of cell-proliferation. These researches have already been described in detail in the preceding volumes. They include a working hypothesis that normal cell reproduction and benign tumours are caused by certain chemical agents, called auxetics, such as tyrosin, creatin, etc.; and that cancerous tumours are caused by a mixture of auxetics With another group of sub stances, called kinetics or augmentors, such as choline and cadaverine. Auxetics are produced in the body by cell-death as the result of injury; kinetics are decomposition products produced by the action of bacteria and other organisms. The former volumes contain many experiments made in the endeavour to prove this hypothesis, but those experiments were mostly made With human and other animal cells; in the present volume, how.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the curious experiments of the author studying the unique characteristics of amoeba through the use of live cell staining, known as the jelly method. These experiments demonstrate that cell-division and proliferation can be stimulated artificially by chemical agents. This work builds on the author's previous hypothesis that benign tumours and normal cell reproduction are caused by auxetics, chemical agents that promote cell growth. The experiments in this volume specifically examine the impact of auxetics and kinetics, chemical agents causing division, on the cell division of amoeba, a type of single-celled organism. Through this research, the author's initial theory is expanded to include the role of kinetics in exciting cell reproduction. The book provides a detailed examination of the subject and will be of particular interest to those in the field of cytology and cell biology. The author's findings provide valuable insights into the fundamental processes of cell division and growth.
