Excerpt from The Mental Survey
The measurement of the mentality of individu als is now so customary and so well established, that the time seems ripe to extend the field of mental measurement to groups. The mental examination of an individual takes at least thirty minutes and often an hour or longer. This makes the measure ment of large numbers an exceedingly slow and la borious procedure. By the individual method a survey of all the children in an institution or in a school system is practically impossible. For this reason it would seem desirable to have survey tests whereby large numbers may be tested at the same time. In doing this we must bear in mind that we are sacrificing an accurate diagnosis of the individ ual for an approximate estimate of the mentality of the group.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a method for evaluating the intelligence of groups using seven standardized tests. Authored by a pioneer in the field, it answers a practical need for assessing intelligence on a larger scale than had been previously possible. The book begins by describing methods of standardization and presenting results from schools and institutions. Part Two of the book serves as a guide for users of the tests, with procedures for scoring and interpreting the results. These tests were developed for use in assessing intelligence in institutions as well as educational settings. The broader significance of this work lies in its contribution to the field of mental measurement, bridging the gap between individual and group intelligence evaluation and paving the way for future developments in educational assessment.
