As for the general plan of Part I, I acknowledge my indebtedness to Mr. V. E. Francois, whose excellent French Prose Compositions suggested to me the idea of getting out a similar book for students of Spanish. The Spanish text of this part of the book is almost wholly original, com posed with a view to illustrating the grammatical points to be reviewed and to supplying interesting material for conversation and exercises in translation from English into Spanish.
