L'inauguration eut lieu le 19 mars 1671. L'entreprise réussit pleinement, mais la discorde ne tarda pas à se mettre parmi les associés. De Sourdéac et Champe ron, seuls locataires de la salle, firent faire un second opéra par un autre que Perrin. Celui - ci se voyant évincé de l'entreprise finit par céder son privilège à Lully, à qui le roi en accorda un nouveau plus étendu que le premier et qui érigeait le théâtre en Académie royale de musique.
