There are good textbooks on physical geography, but there are many teachers and school departments not satisfied with any of them. The author has endeavored to meet the require ments of these teachers as far as such needs could be ascertained. With a subject as broad as physical geography there will al ways be lack of uniformity in the manner of presentation, as well (as in the subject matter. The subject is one which is undergoing many changes, and it is possible that both the teachers and the subject may be ahead of present textbooks in many particulars.
Every class in physical geography should have more or less laboratory and field work associated with the textbook. One of the functions of the textbook not the only one, by any means is to serve as a handbook, which the pupil studies as an aid in the interpretation of what he sees in the labora tory.
