Excerpt from The Origin, Progress, and Present State of the Thames Tunnel: And the Advantages Likely to Accrue From It, Both to the Proprietors and to the Public
In order to shew the real importance of this grand work, and to remove it entirely out of the pale of Bubble Companies, (which I pledge myself to do,) it will only be necessary to give a slight sketch of what has been done, and the manner of doing it; to state the advantages likely to arise from it to the City of London and the neighbour ing counties, the great interest taken in it by engineers both civil and military, and the anxiety with which the progress Of the work is watched by almost every man of science in Europe.
