Macarziis was an Egyptian monk, born at Alex andria about A. D. 300. He was at first a baker, but having been converted to the Christian religion he retired to the desert, in which he spent sixty years. He died about A. D. 390. His Homilies breathe a spirit of deep piety, and contain the whole substance of Ascetic Theology.
