Excerpt from Outline Course of Study for the Public Elementary Schools of Baltimore County, Maryland<br/><br/>This outline Course of Study is published by order of the Board of County School Commissioners of Baltimore County, and in accordance with the by-laws of the State Board of Education. It shows more or less in detail the subject matter by topics to be covered in each of the eight elementary grades, as well as the text-books, supplementary books and teachers' desk and reference books to be used. The material suggested for use especially in the first five or six grades has been worked over by teachers and supervisors in group meetings and classrooms during the past few years, and is therefore not new to the teachers who have been in the corps during that time in the larger schools. The aim has been to collect and organize this subject matter more definitely in a compact form for easy references by the experienced teacher, and as a constant guide for the many new teachers who come into the county from time to time; it is also hoped that the teachers in the outlying districts who cannot attend the group meetings may be able by means of this Course of Study to plan their work more definitely along the lines followed in the larger schools. The page references to both text and reference books have been worked out in the main by various groups of teachers; these should prove a great time saver to the busy teacher, and will be of great value to the beginner in preparing her daily class-room work.
