Excerpt from Everybody's Pocket Code: For Merchants, Bankers, Brokers, and All Business Houses, and Specially Adapted for the Use of Railway and Steamship Passengers, Travellers, Tourists
Apart from those whose business necessitates a continual and daily use of the cable lines, the advantages that may be enjoyed through the facilities now available for Code telegrams are not generally known, nor are the disabilities under which many labour for want of these advantages being brought before their notice, and within their reach, fully recognised.
This is no doubt due in some measure to the want of a Code which, while practising the latest methods, is of a comprehensive nature, can be purchased at a popular price, and is of a size that is convenient to carry in the pocket.
This want the author and publishers have laid themselves out to supply, by Everybody's Pocket Code, and on the assumption that being of pocket size it will be carried extensively when travelling, it has been so compiled as to make it peculiarly adaptable to such circumstances.
It has been divided into four special Sections - irrespective of the General (or main) Section - viz. Travelling, Hotel, Shipping and Forwarding, and Banking and Financial. Each of these Sections con tains the matter indicated by its title, and those establishments whose business is dealt with in either Section, have been invited to arrange for the insertion of their names, addresses, and cable addresses as a component part of the Code.
