Excerpt from An Introduction to Astronomy: Designed as a Text-Book for the Use of Students in College
The sun, planets, satellites, and comets constitute the solar system, which is so called because the sun is the principal body belonging to it, and controls the movements of all the others.
The fixed stars are the bodies situated at vast distances out side of the solar system, and which, on account of that distance, exhibit little or no change of position with respect to each other.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book marked the first significant publication in the field of astronomy, establishing an entirely new way of understanding the universe. The author argues that the Earth is not the center of the solar system, but rather the Sun, and that the planets revolve around the Sun. This revolutionary concept, known as the heliocentric theory, had been proposed by other scientists before, but it was the author's book that provided the mathematical proof and observational evidence necessary to convince the scientific community. The author also made important contributions to the fields of optics and motion, revolutionizing the study of astronomy and laying the groundwork for future scientific discoveries.
