Excerpt from The Normal Herald, Vol. 21: October, 1915
We think that we see in our school. Far as it is from the trenches. Some effects of the war. There is a stiffening of spinal columns, more of a disposition to act when the order. Do this. Is given. A fuller comprehension of the fact that human effort is helpless to avert the penalty when nature's laws are violated.
This change has appeared more distinctly among the men, because' the dullest man can understand that if his nation fails to do its duty in preparing for defense. He may be ordered into the trenches, where life is not so pleasant as it is when the task is nursing those dear soldiers.
