Excerpt from The Chaplain, Vol. 17: A Journal for Protestant Chaplains; June, 1960
The pastor is not the man with all the answers; he is, rather, the man who puts the right questions, and enables his people to ask ques tions at a deeper level than they have ever dared to probe hitherto. To put it in biblical language, the pastor is the man who speaks and lives with his people in such a way that they are encouraged to say: Out of the depths do I cry unto thee, O Lord. And one way Of eliciting this cry is to encourage people both to do'ubt and to believe at a deeper level than they normally do. Much of their lives are lived at a shallow level that shrinks back from pursuing the logic Of their stated creed to the end. We could do a great service for some men simply by taking them more serious ly than they take themselves!

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book argues the most effective image to unify the works of a pastor is that of an interpreter. The author posits that this image has been employed by biblical prophets and Jesus Christ himself, demonstrating its historical and theological legitimacy. Furthermore, the author believes that viewing the role of pastor as interpreter will enable them to better connect with both their congregation and the wider secular community. This book is a valuable resource for pastors and clergy who want to understand how to most effectively fulfill their roles and deepen their impact on the lives of their communities.
