Ma, ripiglio i0, i versi. Opposti chi può dire che non sian de rivati da qualche poeta più antico, da cui amendue gli abbian attinti? Chi può dire, che non siano intrusi in Omero istesso dal le opere di Esiodo, o in Esiodo dalle opere di Omero? Certo so no in Omero moltissimi versi, che l'antichità ebbe per sospetti, e l'edizione del Villoison ce ne rende certi; e di Esiodo pronunzia il Ruhnkenio nella seconda Lettera critica, che niun altro poeta è stato più spesso interpolato. Chi dunque può asserir con certez za, se que'versi prima sieno stati nell'uno, o nell'altro? E di al cuni mostro nelle note, che deon essere stati prima in Esiodo.
