Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is a collection of satirical poems from the 1800s on topics ranging from religion, politics, and the social norms of the day. One poem, for example, takes aim at the practice of paying pew rent, while another pokes fun at the Duke of York, who, having been made Bishop of York without being a practicing Christian, caused a stir by announcing he would preach a sermon without wearing a gown. The author lampoons the discrepancy between the church's teachings and the behavior of those within it, painting a colorful picture of religious hypocrisy and social mores of the time.
