Excerpt from Canterbury Rhymes
Of the Appendix, it is enough to say, that more than half has been taken from the Canterbury Pwnch of 1864-65; this was edited by Mr. Ward, and his hand may be traced in several of the ballads and skits reprinted from it here. The other selections have mostly been chosen from the Lyttelton Times and Canterbury Times, while the Lay of a Lost Spec, with which the series concludes, and which it is hoped will show that Canterbury Rhymsters have not altogether lost their cunning in these days, came out, as may be remembered, in the Press, last year.
