That there was something startling in the nature, and fearful in the details of that revolution, cannot be denied: but these, so far from being reasons for mere exclamations Of abhorrence, in reality form the strongest inducements to a calm and careful examination into the causes which gave rise to the revolution, and of their adequacy to produce such a result. For, since revolutions are the sudden developments of the slow and scarcely perceptible changes wrought by the conservative power, Of his destiny over the evils which afflict man in his social state, they must therefore present to the philanthropist a field, from which he may gather truths beneficial to the human race and the more extraordinary the revolution, the greater should be his care in dispassionately ana lyzing the events which constitute its history.

With these views, and endeavoring to avoid the whisperings of prejudice, I will lay before you.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the complex and often misunderstood history of the Haitian Revolution, a pivotal event that unfolded against the backdrop of the broader Age of Revolution in the late 18th century. The author meticulously examines the intricate web of causes that led to this remarkable uprising, including the brutal realities of slavery, the divisive nature of caste systems, and the profound impact of the French Revolution on the island of Saint-Domingue. Through a detailed analysis of primary sources and historical accounts, the author sheds light on the three distinct revolutions that occurred in Haiti between 1789 and 1803. The narrative explores the initial struggle for republican principles among the white population, the subsequent fight for slave emancipation, and the ultimate quest for independence from colonial rule. Central to this story is the figure of Toussaint Louverture, a former slave who rose to prominence as a skilled military leader, astute politician, and unwavering advocate for equality. This book challenges traditional narratives surrounding the Haitian Revolution, dispelling myths and offering a nuanced understanding of the complex factors that shaped this transformative period. By exploring themes of oppression, resistance, and the pursuit of freedom, the author provides valuable insights into the enduring legacy of the Haitian Revolution and its profound implications for human rights and social justice movements worldwide. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 9781333389710_0
