Excerpt from A Collection of Mathematical and Physical Tables: From a Course of Experiments in Physical Measurement
Various sources of authority for the values con tained in these tables are mentioned on pages 794 795. Care has been taken to give all figures in regard to which different physicists were found to agree, and in general one and only one additional figure, express ing some more or less probable mean among the several determinations. Attention is called to the fact that in, this respect the author has departed from the usual misleading custom of appending two or more insignificant figures to results (see page and that most of the differences which will be found between values quoted in this book and those given elsewhere are due to this departure. It is hoped, accordingly, that throughout the physical tables, in the absence of any special warning to the contrary.
