Excerpt from Chapter by Chapter Through the Bible, Vol. 2 of 4: Expository and Devotional Comments
Enh the chapiters that were upon the top of the pillars were of [fig work. Since every detail of the Temple-building had a significant meaning, each being designed to show forth something of the beauty of holiness, no part of this record is without spiritual value. The fact that the pillars which supported the roof were adorned with chapiters of tracery is suggestive of that com bination of strength and beauty which is seen in the perfect character of God, and which forms part of the ideal life also of His people. That infinite pains should be taken, not only to assure the stability of God's house, but also its chaste decoration, is truly characteristic of Him Who has not, in the world of nature, made anything strong which is not also beauti ful, and Whose care in nature and grace alike is not only for the great, but also for the small details of life.
