Great public service to the whole nation should be the only good reason for devoting the people's money to the erection of any monument to any one. No excellence of private character can warrant such an act.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book uncovers the life and reign of Isabella I of Spain, the first female monarch of a united Spain. Despite being known as Isabella the Catholic for her deep faith and unwavering dedication to the Spanish Inquisition, the author presents a complex and nuanced portrait of a ruler who ruthlessly persecuted the Jewish and Moorish populations of Spain. The author's detailed account of the Inquisition's reign of terror, and the subsequent expulsion of Jews and Moors from Spain, provides a sobering reminder of the devastating consequences of religious intolerance. Ultimately, this book sheds new light on the dark legacy of Isabella's rule, challenging the romanticized view of her as a great and benevolent queen.
