Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book presents the report of the Comptrollor of the Treasury of the State of Maryland for the fiscal year ended September 30, 1891. Presented to the General Assembly of Maryland on January 5, 1892, the report details the revenue received into the Treasury during the fiscal year 1891 and the disbursements for the same time period with comparisons to the previous fiscal year, 1890. The total revenue received was 50% more than the amount received in 1890. The total disbursements were less than those of the previous year, due in part to there being no State 5% Sterling Bonds to redeem. There is also discussion of the state's debt and an in-depth accounting of the Free School Fund and the Sinking Funds for the fiscal year. The author suggests that certain unproducing stocks and securities owned by the state be sold to help pay down the debt, rather than continuing to pay to maintain them. This book is significant in that it provides researchers with a detailed accounting of Maryland's finances at the time, as well as a framework to understand the state budget and its relation to the national historical context.
