Excerpt from The Races of Lancashire: As Indicated by the Local Names and the Dialect of the County
The Celtic local names of the county are conclusive evi dence of the fact that a Celtic race once inhabited it, but the Celtic words still existing in the dialect Show more decisively that a portion of the aboriginal race remained on the soil after the anglo-saxon and Danish conquerors had taken pos session of it. They furnish also data for an approximate cal culation of the ratio which this element bears to that of the races with which it was mingled in process of time.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is a groundbreaking study of Celtic influences on the northwest of England, primarily focusing on Lancashire. The author challenges the long-held belief that the indigenous Celts were either exterminated or driven out of the region by Anglo-Saxon conquerors. Instead, they argue that a substantial Celtic population remained in the area, and their language, culture, and traditions left a significant imprint on the region's development. Through an examination of Celtic names, dialects, and historical records, the author reveals the profound Celtic influence on Lancashire's history, language, and culture, shedding new light on the complex ethnic and linguistic tapestry of England's past.
