This book begins by establishing the foundations of a class of parametric tests for comparing the equality of continuous probability distributions and analyzing possible rejections. The author lays out sufficient conditions for the distribution of these test statistics to be asymptotically normal and derives the limiting distribution of these tests under suitably regular conditions. These results are then used to enable derivation of the asymptotic relative efficiency of these tests to that of the Kruskal-Wallis H test, providing a more robust set of tools for the analysis of continuous probability distributions. The final concept explored is that of the asymptotic efficiency of a normal score test with respect to all translation alternatives. The consistency and power properties of many of these tests are discussed throughout, providing a cohesive historical context for these methods.

Excerpt from Asymptotic Efficiency of a Class of C-Sample Tests
The H test of Kruskal and Wallis is a direct generaliza tion of the two-sample Wilcoxon test discussed in detail by Mann and Whitney and its limiting distribution has been derived by Kruskal [13] under the null hypothesis and by Andrews [1] under an alternative hypothesis. These results are generalized by those of the present paper concerning the limiting distribu tion of the f test.
