The present volume has derived advantages during its preparation by comparison with the excellent editions of Buchheim and Elster. I desire also to acknowledge grate fully my indebtedness to Professor W. T. Vos of Johns Hopkins University for examining the manu script of the notes and giving helpful suggestions.
