Excerpt from The Churchyard Inscriptions of the City of London: Transcribed and Abstracted
Since the writer's transcripts were made, many of the inscriptions have become illegible, or have disappeared, so that at the present time it is impossible to do the same work. The writer only regrets that he was not able to transcribe the inscriptions many years earlier, say at the time the City burial grounds were closed, about sixty years ago.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a comprehensive collection and archival exploration of many memorial inscriptions that once adorned the exteriors of the churches in the City of London. These inscriptions are transcripts of the ones that were moved inside the churches to make room for structural changes. Over time, many of them were entirely lost, and the author has painstakingly recorded these historic markers to prevent further loss to posterity. The work provides a rare glimpse into the lives and deaths of London's citizens, rich and poor, over several centuries. The inscriptions reveal poignant stories of tragedy and loss, provide a rich vein of genealogical information, and give a fascinating insight into religious, social, and economic life in the City of London from the sixteenth century onwards.
