VII. Whatfoever hath been the cfi'eé'ts and fruits of meetings of perfons of divers (4. Milies in the times of corruption or trouble (in which cafes many things are commen dable, which otherwife are not tolerable,) yet when God hath blell'ed us with Peace 8c the purity of the Gofpel foch meetings of perfons of divers families (exceptio the cafes mentioned in thefe direétions) are to be difapproved, as tending to the hinderance of the religious exercife of each family by it felf, to the prejudice of the Publick Mini fir to the renting of the families of p articular Congregations,and (in progrefs of time) 0 the whole Kirk befides many offences, which may come thereby to the hardniu'g of the hearts of carnal men, and grief of the godly.

We should fcarce imagine it, any better then an impertinency in this noon-day of the Gofpel, either to inform or petfwade in a duty exprelly commanded, f0 ficquently urged, {0 highly encouraged. And l'o eminently owned by the Lord in all ages with his blelling but that our fad experience tells us this duty is nor more needful then 'tis of late ne glected. For the relioring of this duty to its due obfervance give us leave to fuggeli this double advice.
