During the years that the eight volumes of the Diary have been passing through the press various notes respect ing the author and his work have accumulated. Some of these are corrections of statements in the notes, while still more consist of fresh material in illustration of the text. Of the latter class special mention must be made of the new facts which Mr. Lindsay has discovered respecting the diarist's ancestry, and the will of Samuel Pepys, which is now published for the first time.
