Excerpt from Dynamics of Nerve and Muscle
Working for myself with the instruments for measuring the resistance of animal tissues to elec trical conduction, the fact, which I had not before sufficiently apprehended, became impressed upon me that these tissues might take rank under the head of non - conductors rather than under that of conductors. I found; for example, that the resistance of an inch of the sciatic nerve of a frog was not less than B. A. Units - as much, that is, as eight times that of the whole Atlantic cable.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book explores a theory of the electrical phenomena associated with the initiation of muscular activity and sensation. The author, a renowned physiologist, offers a detailed examination of the electrical dynamics of nerve and muscle, beginning with a survey of the relevant discoveries that shaped our understanding of animal electricity. The book delves into the electrical phenomena observed during muscular contraction and sensation, examining the changes in electrical charge and discharge. The author demonstrates that the initiation of these processes is not a simple matter of increased blood flow or heightened life but rather a more complex interplay of electrical forces. Through experiments, the author builds a case for considering the electrical state of an organism as a fundamental factor in understanding its functions, opening new avenues for exploring the nature of nerve-muscle dynamics and the broader mechanisms of life.
