Excerpt from A Recently Proposed Test of Canonicity
We have now passed under a careful review the several parts of this theory. If our examination has been prolonged, it has been due to the character of the witness with whom we have had to deal. He has shown himself to be an apparently relue tant witness. A close cross-examination has been necessary, there fore, to compel him to lay aside his reluctance and to testify to the real nature Of his theory. If the attempt has been success ful, two considerations will go far to compensate us for the time it has taken First, We may feel sure that our view of the theory is correct, inasmuch as it has been derived from the statements of one of its advocates; and, second, We need not tarry long upon its refutation, for this is one of those cases where a clear state ment of a theory is almost equivalent to a refutation of it.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into a recently proposed method of determining which biblical writings should be considered authoritative, a question central to the Christian faith. Historically, scholars have relied on external evidence, such as authorship and historical context, to establish canonicity. However, the author challenges this approach, arguing that the ultimate test lies within the individual's spiritual experience. Through an exploration of historical perspectives, the author analyzes this new theory, examining its implications for understanding the nature of inspiration and the role of external evidence in matters of faith. The book provides a fresh perspective on a fundamental aspect of Christian belief, inviting readers to consider the dynamic interplay between reason, faith, and the search for truth in the interpretation of Scripture.
