Excerpt from Luther's Own Statements Concerning His Teaching and Its Results

Be a sinner, and sin mightily, but trust and rejoice more mightily in Christ, who is the conqueror of sin, of death, and of the world. Sins must be committed, as long as we are in this state. This life is not the abode of justice, but, as Peter says, we await a new heaven and a new earth, in which justice dwells. It is sufficient that, through the riches of glory, we have acknowledged the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world; sin will not separate us from it [the Lamb], not even if in one single day we were to commit murde1, a thousand, a thousand times over. Do you believe that the price and ran som paid for our sins, 'in such and so great a Lamb is so tri?ing?

In this letter Luther not only allows, but even wishes his friend to sin, when he is subject to the temptation of despondency. Now, every Sin is contrary to the will of God. Therefore, Luther, the self-constituted Lawgiver of the Sixteenth century, allows and recommends what God, the supreme Lawgiver of all ages, past, present, and future, forbids.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is a meticulous study of the teachings and results of Martin Luther's reformation through exploration of the reformer's own original writings. Drawing exclusively from these rare authentic sources, the author analyses Luther's most radical statements concerning his rejection of papal authority and acceptance of the devil's, his own self-proclaimed authority and infallibility, along with the political and moral consequences of his teachings. The book positions Luther's tumultuous life within the context of his time, setting the stage for an examination of the depth of his ideas. Ultimately, the author concludes with an evaluation of the significance of Luther's insights into the nature of faith and religious authority, providing a fresh perspective on the impact of his teachings on Western Christianity.
