I am very desirous moreover of seeing the promotion Of a fuller commercial understanding between Great Britain and Italy, such as that indefatigable friend of Italy, Commenda tore Richard Bagot, has been continually urging in his addresses at our greatest commercial centres, under the auspices of the British Italian League.
It has been, I believe truly, said that England's Weake'st spot is her neglect of foreign languages. It does 'not speak well for our public-school training, when Englishmen in prominent positions are unable to make themselves under stood in French, the language adopted by all nations in their diplomatic intercourse. And I trust that the Italian lan guage will now come to be regarded as a no less essential feature in our higher education.
